COERR Kanchanaburi supported Youth Volunteer Activities for Elderly

On February 21, 2022, a group of 12 youth volunteers including 9 females and 3 males paid visits to two elderly who were living alone and without family support.

The youth volunteers provided physical and emotional care to the elderly through greetings and enquiry about their daily living. Youth also helped to make the elderly’s houses more comfortable, by help cleaning the houses and toilets as well as sweeping ground area around houses.

The activities did cause these lonely elders to become happy as they were visited and their stories were listened. At the end of the visit, they wished the youth happiness.

For the youth, benefits of the activities were to learn to understand more about volunteering spirit, being givers or servers, especially to the needy. They were trained to be social workers. They were also aware that caring and helping other vulnerable people reserved special praise. They learned to realize that elderly should be cared and that sparing time for elderly makes their society a better place for living.
